Do any sessions include day fieldtrips?1. What are the 2008 dates and hours? 
The Coastal Camp summer season begins on June 16, 2008 and ends on August 22, 2008. Week-long sessions run Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
2. Where is Coastal Camp located?
Coastal Camp is located at Rodeo Beach on the Headlands Institute campus.
3. Is extended care available?
Yes, we offer early care from 8 - 9 a.m. for $7/day and afternoon care from 4 - 6 p.m. for $12/day.
4. What are the ages of campers?
Coastal Camp offers programs for campers entering grades 1 - 9 in fall 2008.
5. Do your fees include daily lunch & snacks?
Yes, all campers enjoy a delicious and healthy lunch prepared fresh daily by the Headlands Institute chefs. Morning and afternoon snacks are also provided and include seasonal fruits and crackers.
6. What is the refund policy?
Cancellations received by April 15 result in a full refund, less a $25 transaction fee. Cancellations received by June 1 result in a 50% refund of total payment. No other refunds will be made. Session changes may be made up to 2 weeks before the beginning of each camp session at no additional charge, space permitting.
7. Will my child be in the same group as his/her friends?
During registration you can request campers in the same grade be grouped together. We will make every effort to accommodate your request.
8. How long has Coastal Camp been in operation?
Headlands Institute, a campus of Yosemite National Institutes, has been providing youth field s
cience programs for over 30 years. In 2006, Headlands Institute created Coastal Camp to help connect local families with the natural world. This will be the 2nd summer for Coastal Camp.
9. What is the staff/camper ratio?
We maintain a maximum adult to youth ratio of 1:8. Campers are placed in hiking groups according to their grade with a maximum of 16 campers/group.
10. What is the experience of your staff?
Coastal Camp staff consists of college-age seasonal camp counselors and year-round field science educators. Our counselors and educators have a diversity of camp and outdoor experiences and education in the natural sciences. All camp staff members are pre-screened, highly qualified, and CPR and first-aid certified. Field science educators are also certified Wilderness First Responders.
11. Do campers go swimming in the ocean?
No. Campers enjoy a variety of games and activities on the dry sand of Rodeo Beach.
12. What do the campers do if it's raining?
The Headlands Institute campus has several indoor science labs, including our new marine lab featuring intertidal creatures. There is a lot to see, touch, explore, and discover!
13. Do any sessions include overnight trips?
Yes, Outlast the Elements features a Wednesday overnight for grades 1-4 and a Thursday overnight for grades 5-6. Grades 3-6 will camp at a local campsite. Grades 1-2 will spend the night indoors at Headlands Institute.
14. Do any sessions include day fieldtrips?
Yes, Eco Quest 08 features a one-day off-site fieldtrip to conduct marine mammal research. Also, Ocean Explorers features a Tuesday bay sailing trip departing from Sausalito.
15. Is there a showcase at the end of camp?
Yes, family and friends are invited to attend a showcase at the end of the week including a slideshow and camper songs and skits.
16. What makes Coastal Camp different?
Coastal Camp breaks the mold by finding the place where play and
education meet. Our diverse and skilled field science educators and
energetic counselors strive to create a safe environment where campers
become part of a meaningful community and develop new friendships.
17. Why do kids love Coastal Camp?
Coastal Camp kids have a personal and lasting experience with nature.
They will discover a strong sense of self and create a unique
connection to the world around them, all while exploring the stunning
coastal landscape of the Marin Headlands.
